Community support

Healthcare

With a presence worldwide, Total believes in helping the communities among which it operates. Its corporate-philanthropy policy is to fight inequality in disadvantaged communities, particularly where healthcare is concerned. Its activities are guided by two key objectives: the struggle against infectious diseases via research and training of medical personnel, and the promotion of children’s welfare.

Total supports training programs for healthcare personnel at all levels in several African countries, often via its agreement with the Institut Pasteur. It also sponsors associations involved in caring for children in need. Between now and 2010, Total will devote 10 million euros to its activities in this area.

Education

Total is aware that social inequality manifests itself at a very early age, and seeks to combat disparities via activities geared toward current social realities.

Total’s educational philanthropy aims to help young people find their way out of social exclusion and make a secure start in life. By tackling the reasons for educational failure at their root, Total improves future employment prospects for younger generations.

Of the various activities Total is involved in, partnership agreements have been signed with the apfEE (association for effective schooling), the Télémaque Foundation, Sciences Po and the Charles de Gaulle Foundation.

Solidarity and corporate philanthropy

With a presence in 130 countries, Total and its employees are aware of the difficulties facing certain communities. That’s why many Total employees have decided to work as volunteers in healthcare, education, social services and local development.

Autistic adults and children, the homeless, families in difficulty, and unemployed youth: Total employees work in projects that contribute to social integration for everyone. Their work – in drop-in centers, on training courses and via workshops – is organized to allow marginalized people

Solidarity and corporate philanthropy is particularly active in Africa where numerous Total  employees’initiatives are conducted in conjunction with local associations.
