Support social integration
Total’s employees offer their services as volunteers with a number of associations working to ensure the professional re-integration of those at risk of exclusion.
- Total supports sufferers of autism with Sésame Autisme Cher and the Atout Fruit project -
The Atout Fruit project, operated by the Sésame Autisme Cher association, has opened a workshop-boutique specially equipped to offer work-experience opportunities for autistic adolescents and adults in the city of Bourges. The workshop not only enables social re-integration through work; it also helps change attitudes toward autism and helps sufferers find a place in the life of their community.
- Reintegrating the homeless -
With the creation of a drop-off center in Paris’ Les Halles district, local homeless people now have a place where they can leave their belongings for a while, chat and form ties with the wider community. The initiative, run by the Mains Libres (Hands Free) association, helps reintegrate the homeless and offers them a chance to participate in the life of the district.
- Help for parents in need with the Balle au Bond association -
Balle au Bond (Bouncing Ball) is an association that offers adults and children under age 4 a place where they can go to forget – or share – their cares. Modeled on Françoise Dolto’s “green houses” initiative, this drop-in center offers parents and children a chance to break out of the isolation they often face on account of their domestic situation, to exchange experiences, and to simply get together with others. The initiative is specially aimed at families in situations of conflict, allowing parents to find new dignity in their roles and responsibilities.
- Getting a driver’s license and rejoining society -
People who are unemployed or have serious social-integration problems often face numerous obstacles in their attempts to enter the working world. Contrepoint is a Belgian association that offers these people vocational training in the building sector plus supervision and financial assistance in obtaining a driver’s license. In this way, the project helps combat social inequality and gives marginalized young people the chance to gain a foothold in society.
- Creating jobs by recycling waste -
The Valdocco ARPPE is an association that creates jobs by recycling waste. Discarded bread is transformed into animal feed or fishing bait, while metals, plastic bottle caps and printer cartridges are first sorted and then recycled. Based in Lyon, the association offers young adults guidance in their chosen career path. Total’s funding of the association will go toward the purchase of a collection and delivery vehicle.
